Thomas Jefferson On Carrying Arms

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...only disarm those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they server rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

This is wrongly attributed to Jefferson. It is from a book that Jefferson had by, Cesare Beccaria's Essay on Crimes and Punishments.

Yes, please don't post stuff on Facebook or anywhere else without properly checking to see if the quote is properly attributed, it just ruins the credibility of the cause you support, in this case a cause I support. Don't give 'em quarter to think they might be intellectually and morally superior for wanting to take our guns away. And don't post outright lies are factual errors. It doesn't help!

Curiously, most of the pro-gun side uses quotes recklessly, or in some cases, they outright fabricate them. This is actually rather insulting to the founders who they imagine would support them. http://gunfreeuh.wix.com/2ndamendmentproject
